Eating Around The World..In NJ

One of the things I love most about New Jersey is how you can travel the globe without ever hopping on a plane. Our state is full of incredible restaurants, bakeries, and cafés that bring the flavors of different cultures right to our neighborhoods. If you’re looking to take your taste buds on a little trip, here’s how to eat and drink your way around the world — without leaving NJ.

🇮🇹 Italy: Assaggini di Roma, Hazlet

For a classic Italian experience, Assaggini di Roma in Hazlet never disappoints. Their chicken parmigiana is fabulous — tender chicken cutlets pounded thin, layered with sauce and cheese, then finished with a beautiful broil on top. Start your meal with the Zuppa di Mussels, swimming in a zesty, slightly spicy sauce that’s so good you’ll be tempted to dip every piece of bread you can find into it.

🇫🇷 France: Antoinette Boulangerie, Red Bank

If Paris feels out of reach, head to Antoinette Boulangerie in Red Bank for a little taste of France. Their chocolat croissant is buttery perfection, and they also offer delicate French pastries like macarons, éclairs, fresh brioche, and fruit tarts. It’s the perfect stop for a sweet escape (and a little café daydreaming).

🇯🇵 Japan: Wasabi Kaizen, Matawan

Fresh sushi, flavorful ramen, and cozy ambiance make Wasabi Kaizen in Matawan a must-visit for Japanese cuisine lovers. The broths are rich and unique, while the udon noodles are downright unforgettable — the sauce is indescribably delicious. Don’t leave without dessert: the fried ice cream and matcha cheesecake are the perfect ending to your meal.

🏴 England: The Pie Store, Montclair

Craving something hearty and comforting? The Pie Store in Montclair serves up classic British fare like pasties and banoffee pie that feels straight out of the UK. They even stock imported candies, drinks, and canned goods, so you can take a little piece of England home with you.

🇪🇸 Spain: The Spanish Tavern, Newark

For bold Spanish flavors, The Spanish Tavern in Newark is a true gem. Their paella is always fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned — ideal for sharing. And whatever you do, don’t skip the garlic shrimp appetizer. It’s one of my family’s all-time favorites and a dish you’ll find yourself craving long after your visit.

This little tour is just the beginning! New Jersey is filled with flavors from every corner of the globe, and I can’t wait to share even more ways to eat and drink your way “around the world” — right here at home.

Stay tuned for the next round of delicious destinations!
